Being a HUGE fan of landscape photography, the immediate moment I stepped into a Peter Lik gallery in Maui, Hi I knew I’d be in there for a solid two hours, if not, longer. Recently, Peter Lik has been all over the internet having sold his Phantom photograph to a private collector for $6.5 million – setting the world record for the most expensive photograph ever. Lik’s prized photograph was shot in Arizona’s Antelope Canyon and depicts a beam of light striking through a subterranean cavern while a ghost-like figure rises up from the sand. Not only did the private collector drop $6.5 million on Phantom, but other masterworks from Lik including Illusion for $2.4 million and Eternal Moods for $1.1 million. That’s serious cash right there, so props to Peter Lik. However, there’s been some speculation about the sale so we’ll have to see how it plays out in the coming weeks or perhaps months.
